Why ceiling fan rotates anticlockwise and table fan clockwise?
The direction in which a fan rotates can have an impact on the airflow and the perceived comfort in a room. The convention for ceiling fans and table fans is generally based on their typical use and the desired effects.
Ceiling fans are often designed to rotate counterclockwise (anticlockwise) during the summer months. When a ceiling fan rotates in this direction, it creates a downdraft, which helps to circulate air and create a cooling effect. This is beneficial in warm weather because it can make a room feel more comfortable by promoting air circulation and enhancing the evaporation of sweat on the skin.
On the other hand, table fans or box fans are typically designed to rotate clockwise. When a table fan rotates in this direction, it creates an updraft, drawing air from below and expelling it upwards. This can be useful in the winter or cooler months when you want to circulate warm air that naturally rises to the ceiling back down to the living space, helping to maintain a more even temperature.
It's important to note that not all ceiling fans and table fans have reversible motors to change the direction of rotation, and some fans may only operate in one direction. If a fan has a reversible motor, there is usually a switch on the fan housing that allows you to change the direction of rotation based on the season and your comfort needs.
